According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone, in recent years the team has been inspired by flowers that actually exist in nature. Last year it was the periwinkle flower that caught the eye, and this year it's the cochineal. This insect has a rich color and is an invaluable source of carmine, a natural red dye.
Terracotta, hints of crimson, and flecks of purple were added to the standard color of the cochineal. So Viva Magenta color appeared, which will be the hit of fashionable outfits in the year 2023.
When determining the color of the year, Pantone is inspired not only by nature, but also by the surrounding reality - they assess mood, follow fashion shows, and analyze the preferences of designers and their clients. Therefore, it is not surprising that long before the main hue of 2023 was announced, designers already used it in their spring-summer 2023 collections.
