Romantic sentiments at Fashion Weeks

Fashion weeks in Paris, Milan, London and New York were held under the banner of romance and tenderness - such a conclusion can be made, looking at the trends of the upcoming season. Ruffles, lace, feathers - all this looks light and airy and reminds: spring and summer are the time of nature in bloom.

There were, of course, more dramatic accents: emphasized sharp shoulders, python leather, patch pockets, but the romance in the fashion of spring-summer 2023 is much more.

After all the shows in the fashion capitals of the Big Four, 12 clothing trends for the upcoming spring and summer season are outlined:

  • feather décor;
  • cutouts and cuts;
  • laces;
  • semi-transparent fabrics;
  • emphasis on the shoulders;
  • asymmetry;
  • an abundance of pockets;
  • python leather;
  • lingerie style;
  • aged denim;
  • plissé;
  • hoods.

Let's get acquainted with each trend in detail to make a shopping list in advance to update your closet.

Feathers

Chanel trimmed its tweed jackets with feathers and Rick Owens used them on sandals, which looks very unexpected, especially for such a rebellious and usually daring brand.

Cutouts and cuts

Clothing with slits and cutouts in unexpected places seems to be a major symbol of the 2020s. For a few seasons now, we've seen designers get creative and create pieces with slits on the hips, chest, waist and even in the groin area, like the Burberry collection. If you have not yet got a piece with a piquant cut - it's time to fix it, because this technique will be among the main trends of spring and summer 2023.

Laces

In addition to airy feathers, designers launched the lace trend for the upcoming season. We couldn't imagine that the patterned lightweight material would return to the list of fashion trends so quickly, but the Chanel and Dior shows dispelled any doubts. Lace is officially in fashion - both as inserts and as the main fabric of clothes.

Translucent fabrics

Trend for translucent clothing will help to make the image sexy and attractive. Of course, this is not new in the list of trends - similar outfits we saw during the fashion weeks of last year. The opaque fabrics were predicted to fade quickly, but recent shows by Prada, Miu Miu and Valentino proved that it is too early to write them off.

Emphasis on the shoulders

In the season Fall-Winter 2022-23 a fresh trend appeared - an emphasis on the shoulders. Designers presented jackets and coats with massive shoulders, shirts and blouses with shoulder pads, interestingly designed knitted blouses. The fashion house Saint Laurent decided that one season is not enough for such a bright trend and released a series of coats with accents on the shoulders. They were supported by the designers of Junya Watanabe brand.

Asymmetry

Avant-garde and deconstructivist manifestations are firmly lodged in fashion closets, so the spring-summer season will not do without asymmetrical cut clothes. It can be a one shoulder dress like Ottolinger, a skirt with an uneven hem like Rokh or something very unusual, like the dress from Acne Studios.

Lots of pockets

The next trend in clothing for spring and summer is an abundance of pockets. And not just any pockets, but patch pockets, as on the Louis Vuitton or Miu Miu elongated vest. You can use this trend in more familiar manifestations - on jackets or pants. The latter, by the way, will fit perfectly in the safari and military style.

Python skin imitation

No one is surprised by the fashion for leather anymore, but python leather is another matter. Of course, none of the world's brands use real python skin, but all of them perfectly imitate its color, making things sexy and predatory. Animalism style for spring and summer is promoted by Khaite, Tod's and, of course, the main fan of animal themes - Roberto Cavalli.

Lingerie Style

Just when we'd gotten rid of the combo dresses and pajama suits, the trendsetters brought back the lingerie style again. There were a lot of nightgown-like dresses, sexy pajamas, and bra-style tops.

Aged denim

Denim with scuffed effect and as if boiled is a new trend. Interestingly enough, this fabric was used by dozens of brands, including Blumarine, Givenchy, Miu Miu and others. Looks like a new star has lit up on the fashion scene - don't miss it.

Plissé

A triumphant return in summer and spring is waiting for pleated skirts. Recently pleated skirts started to lose their positions, being replaced by less romantic models. But as it turned out, they are not going anywhere - Rokh, Sacai and Thom Browne found a way to breathe new life into them.

Hoods

Clothing with hoods closes the list of fashion trends for spring and summer. And this is not some usual jackets and sweatshirts, but maxi length dresses. At least a dozen brands, including Saint Laurent, Alberta Ferretti and Versace, used this method in their clothes.

Fashionable colors for spring-summer

We devoted a separate article to the fashionable colors and shades of clothes for the Spring-Summer 2023 season - there we collected data from Pantone Institute, showed examples of clothed and how to adapt them. Here we will stop only on those fashionable shades that were most often seen on the catwalk.

So, the most fashionable colors in clothes in the spring and summer will be:

Fiery orange. The year of the tiger is receding, but that's no reason to give up the passionate and warming orange. And the brighter the shade, the better. This is proved by the outfits from Salvatore Ferragamo and Bottega Veneta.

Red. Another extravagant color accent is red. Here, as in the case with orange, it is better not to be modest and follow the example of Valentino and Salvatore Ferragamo, choosing real red, attractive and sexy.

Herbal. Grassy green helps to dilute this color madness. Herbal color is fresh, light, but still quite saturated. We saw examples of this shade at Proenza Schouler and Fendi shows.

Violet. The last but not the least color of the season. Violet is a delicate, slightly whitened. It will perfectly fit into romantic looks and looks great with all the airy trends of the season - feathers, lace, translucent fabrics.
