The grunge style originally appeared as a direction in music. In the 80s, the bands Nirvana, Soundgarden became popular in the United States, whose songs and behavior were rebellious, daring. Fans liked this behavior of the idols, and they adopted their habits, clothes and philosophy – defiance, denial, protest. Gradually, the disheveled look and cheeky behavior attracted the American youth. 
For a long time, designers were indifferent to the non-standard, for some even aggressive and provocative style in clothing. Only Marc Jacobs for several years watched the development of the grunge style - visited places of congestion of young people, watched vagrants on the streets.
It was Jacobs who became the pioneer of grunge for high fashion. He released his first rebellious collection in 1993 and immediately faced a wave of misunderstanding. Fashion connoisseurs did not immediately realize that "orphan girls" in sundresses in flowers and rough shoes are stylish and bold. The collection also includes trench coats, shirts, sweaters. 
Mark listened to a lot of humiliating comments, for example, critics made jokes about the origin of clothes, referring to the fact that the appearance of all items of the runway wardrobe dominates the assortment of second-hand. In 2018, the designer announced the re-release of the collection - he recreated all 26 models of the first grunge collection.
Grunge is preferred by young girls and guys under the age of 30-35 years, but with a competent combination of different items of clothing, it looks great on older people.
The substyle of neo-grunge allows the use of lighter, more delicate colors and fabrics, which is especially liked by young girls. They combine light dresses, tunics and blouses with rough elements and emphasize carelessness. All images of neo-grunge are original, creative, creative. 
One of the brightest varieties is frankly rebellious images, composed of leather things, spikes, rough shoes. Large jewelry and non-standard accessories are also used. 
Rock grunge is similar to punk, but things made of high-quality materials are used to make a wardrobe. Brands are often famous, with a high price tag. Characteristic features - chains, skin, dark colors.
