Conceptual, from the Latin rationis - thought, reason. The Latin roots of the word define the essence of conceptualism and conceptual fashion:

A synonym for conceptualism and conceptual fashion is intellectual fashion - these are things that conventionally have intelligence, that is, convey more than form and appearance.
The very concept of conceptual art did not arise, of course, yesterday. It was finally established by the 70s of the last century, when in all spheres the idea began to prevail over the external form. The pioneers of the new conceptualism were Japanese designers Issei Miyake, Rei Kawakubo and Yoji Yamamoto. Their works amazed the eye and caused a lot of questions from the general public. Each of the fashion designers laid one philosophy in the basis of things - opposition to fashion and the creation of a new form of clothing that would convey the whole essence of time. Their things made them think, awaken creative skills and reason what is clothing and what is a person.
The birth of conceptualism began even earlier – at the beginning of the 20th century, the Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli came into close contact with the Surrealists, which influenced her subsequent collections. So, in 1936, a woman began to use optical, illusory prints in decorating outfits, which "came to life" only at a certain angle, and later created a famous jacket with hands that seemed to hug a woman. And, of course, in all this there was an idea, a thought that Elsa herself and her entourage could understand. In modern fashion, conceptualism is called everything - from the asymmetrical hem of the skirt, to the raw seams of products. But not every dress with an asymmetrical bottom will be conceptual. Conceptualism in clothing is about authorship and originality.
Conceptual things challenge society, look bold, alternative – as if they have absorbed everything "strange" and not accepted by the majority.

And the main thing is that conceptualism is not about the mass market. Of course, publicly available things can include notes of conceptualism, because the basis of any skirt or trousers is a concept, but such wardrobe items have nothing to do with true conceptual fashion.
It is difficult to single out conceptualism in modern women's clothing. First of all, this is due to the blurring of the very concept of conceptualism in clothing. There is a simple life hack that will help you understand whether it is conceptualism or not – ask yourself: does the thing cause questions and does it make you worry? If not, it's not conceptualism.

And, of course, conceptualism has several characteristic features that will help you understand countless real or far-fetched conceptualities:

The style of conceptualism in clothing is not about mass fashion. Not everyone will dare to wear things in the style of conceptualism. But there is a way to become a part of this art - to use in your wardrobe things with notes of conceptual fashion - with unusual styles, bold forms and a clear idea at the core.
Pay attention to conceptual brands or stores that sell conceptual, underground clothing. The main conceptualists in the fashion world are Issei Miyake, Rei Kawakubo and Yoji Yamamoto – these are creators from Japan.
The LYNX CONCEPT store has its own line of conceptual clothing for women and men and there you can also see things in the style of conceptualism from other brands. And then look at how to use conceptualism in modern clothes to be at least one iota closer to intellectuality in style.
Total look from LYNX CONCEPT – black asymmetrical shirt of free cut and baggy skirt. Dress with round cutouts from Katami Wear. The model can become part of the everyday image or in a duet with accessories to distinguish you at a party.
In cool weather, even an everyday look will make brighter a leather jacket with an oblique zipper and cut-off sleeves from Marc Alien.
The Gothic sweater from MDNT:45 will save you from the cold and at the same time add a little conceptualism and deconstructivism to the outfit.
The tracksuit of the Bulgarian brand Metamorphoza is an alternative to the already boring oversize sets. An unusual cut and accent belts are what you need to rebel against fast fashion.
A little philosophy in the business image will add a flared shirt and vest with a side neckline from Issey Miyake.

Is it possible to create a conceptual wardrobe? In the traditional sense of conceptualism – no – it simply would not be wearable. However, every woman is able to add a little philosophy, idea and meaning to the image.
