On March 14, Berlin Fashion Week started. It is not part of the Big Four and does not have the same influence on the global fashion industry as the weeks in Paris or Milan. But during the event, talented cutting-edge designers present their collections, by whose presentations you can judge the trends and sentiments of the coming season.
This year, young talents gathered at MBFW from March 14 to 16 at Kraftwerk Berlin to showcase a contemporary understanding of German fashion. The formats of catwalk shows, digital shows, panel discussions, and exhibitions helped them do this. The "Open studio" format allowed viewers to enter the designers' creative studios and get a closer look at their work.
The fashion week kicked off with a show by Sofia Ilmonen, who in her collection demonstrated a unique sewing technique: attaching square modules to each other. This year she emphasized lightness, playfulness and optimism.
Justin Kassin showed a casual Australian style in his Fall/Winter 2022 men's collection. We saw mixed-material suits, patterned shirts, a combination of flowing pants and sandals. The show was opened and closed by Australian Jordan Barrett, who captured the spirit of the brand in his looks: free, light and daring.
A striking event was the presentation of Killian Kerner's new collection telling a modern fairy tale "Claudette & Rico". Men's and women's images were presented, the leitmotif being modern and confident femininity.
The whole show was built on contrasts. It started with pastel colors, plenty of tulle and sequins.
Later the images were replaced by more daring shapes and black dresses with high slits.
The finale is a transparent outfit completely covered in shimmer.
In addition to the above-mentioned fashion designers during MBFW, Marcel Ostertag, Esther Perbandt and other cutting-edge designers contributed to the international awareness of German fashion. And on the last day there were presentations by Rebekka Ruétz, Elias Rumelis and Jean Grizzfeldt.
