History

A sweater in the classical sense is a warm knitted garment with long sleeves and a collar. In this form, it warmed soldiers in the Middle Ages. Peasants also did not neglect woolen with small side cuts. And in the 19th century, these clothes were actively worn by sailors of Great Britain. For greater protection from water, products were made of unwashed wool. According to the color palette, there was no wide run-up - black and blue were a priority for a long time.

History of sweaters

In the 20th century, the product ceased to be working clothes. After the King of Great Britain appeared at the reception, this item of clothing came into fashion. In the 1930s, the women's collection was presented at her show by Coco Chanel.

Let fashion every season offers new interpretations of this product, but the classics remain relevant. Most often, the product is knitted with a simple face surface. A dense unisex product with a high collar and long sleeves is an important attribute of the basic wardrobe.

Material and styles

Depending on the manufacturer and price segment, the material of manufacture may differ. Speaking about what material sweaters are made of, you need to take into account the cost, manufacturer, brand awareness and other factors.

A good, high-quality piece of clothing consists of 75% natural wool, and the remaining 25 take on synthetic fibers - polyamide, polyester, lycra. Synthetics in the composition increases the service life of the product, and also does not allow it to lose its shape.

Wool is used differently - this ultimately affects the characteristics of the product.

  • merinos. Merinos are a breed of sheep whose wool is soft and durable;
  • Alpaca. Alpaca is a domestic animal from the camel family. Gives a strong, soft coat with excellent warming properties;
  • Scottish sheep. Unlike Merinos, the Scottish breed produces a tough, coarse coat. It can be used as a base, or added for strength and shape;
  • mohair. Mohair is a yarn that is obtained from the wool of Angara goats. Elastic, durable, shiny, but not used in its pure form - always combined with other types of wool.

There are sweaters that consist of acrylic – a synthetic material. Externally and to the touch, the product practically does not differ from the natural one, but it heats worse.

Features of the cut:

  • high neck. If the product does not have a gate, it is not a sweater;
  • long sleeve. Most often - full, that is, up to the wrist or even lower, sometimes a sleeve of three-quarters is used - closes the arm to the middle of the forearm;
  • lack of fittings – zippers, buttons.

Modern models may have buttons, but more often they are decorative in nature and act as a finish of the product.

As for the styles - here manufacturers offer different options. Initially, the product was of medium length, quite free, but in figure. Now there are more options - short and long, fitted and baggy, in size and oversize.
