In 2012, the fashion house's trademark was replaced by Saint Laurent, leaving the original name Yves Saint Laurent - YSL only for accessories and cosmetics.
Yves Saint Laurent was born in Algeria, into a wealthy family. The father of the then young boy was sure that he would become a lawyer, but Saint Laurent himself did not share his father's dreams. Being a schoolboy, the guy already gravitated to design and even made his sketches.
One day, he was lucky enough to meet with the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine in Paris, who immediately saw potential in the boy. 
In 1954, at the age of 18, the future couturier moved to Paris and became a student of the fashion school. Already in the first year of study, he won the prestigious competition of fashion designers. Michel de Brunoff, the editor of Vogue, from the very first meeting began to support the guy in his endeavors - he watched the works, gave advice, helped to get used to the fashion world.
It was thanks to Michel that Yves Saint Laurent got into the fashion house Dior. Christian Dior trusted the new employee so much that in 1957 he left his fashion house for him, going on vacation himself. Dior never returned from vacation – he had a heart attack. 
The new chief designer of the famous fashion house began work on changing the traditional style of Dior and already in the first year of his work as artistic director increased the company's revenue by 35%, but the owner of the house Marcel Boussac could not come to terms with innovative ideas and, judging by rumors, organized Saint Laurent's conscription into the army. With military service, the fashion designer did not work out - after 2 weeks he had a nervous breakdown, and a psychiatric clinic followed him.
Upon his return, Eve found that his post in Dior was already occupied – so it was time to open his own fashion house. With the opening of the fashion house, the world saw innovative, sometimes even risky solutions for that time - an invitation to shows of black models, the creation of a unisex direction in clothing. Until the end of the 80s, the company steadily developed and turned into a real empire, but then there was a crisis, followed by numerous resales of rights, a change of directors and designers. 
In 2002, Yves Saint Laurent announced that he was leaving the world of fashion, and in 2008 the man died.
